Why Go Sailing In The BVI?

Why go in the BVI? Why not? After hearing countless stories from fellow sailors about taking a sailing trip to the British Virgin Islands, we are ready to pack our bags and head out. I don’t want to fiddle faddle here, and let’s just get straight to the point.

Pros For in the British Virgin Islands

It’s Safe- Compared to its American counter-part the BVI’s have buckled down on crime making passage through here clean and safe. Aafter the pirates took hold of the islands more than 300 years ago, the British have been working hard to clean up these beautiful islands, and have taken lots of pre-cautions to make sure their tourists feel comfortable and completely safe.

The Wind is Always Blowing-Okay, we can’t completely make that claim, with consistent trade winds to fill your main sail, clear blue water, sunshine every day and islands close enough to navigate by sight.

Sailing from Island to Island is Fairly Easy– As you just read in the previous sentence, you can see most if not all of the Islands up and down the Sir Frances Drake Channel, you can navigate by sight. From end to end, the island chain only stretches 32 miles long, and 15 miles wide. This means it’s long enough to go for a day sail from one end to the other, or you can take several days and island hop, only having 1-3 hour sailing trips in between each island.
