The Christmas Season has begun and we decided to carry on the tradition of putting up Christmas lights on our Hobie. We’ve had a few requests asking us how we’ve done it in years past, so we decided to put up a tutorial on How To Put Christmas Lights on Your Hobie Cat. In the pictures below, we actually used our Hobie Holder as the boat of choice, but we’ve done it on our Hobie Cat in the past, and the same concept applies.
Materials Needed:
- Zip Ties
- A lighted Christmas Star or sign or something to put on top of the mast that isn’t too heavy
- At least 3 strands of Christmas lights (any color, we used mini white lights 100 ct.)
- 2 Strong people who can raise the mast. 🙂
Step One:
Zip Tie the star on to the top of the mast to secure it.
Step Two:
Wrap The Christmas Lights around the mast and under the Halyard and Shrouds. Connect the lights to the star so they all light up at once.
Step Three
Use the Halyard to secure the mast when its raised.
Step Four
Raise the mast. Connect the end of the lights to an extension cord running to the house. And Voila, Merry Christmas. Things we know from years past not to try: Duct Tape- it leaves a sticky residue on the boat that’s difficult to get off. Also- don’t try to raise the mast near any trees, which is also a good tip any time of the year.
