Hobie Sailing Gear-Righting Line

If you own a Hobie, you know you are always on the lookout for the best Gear there is. Anything to make your boat smoother, faster, and fly higher than before. Something that has saved us a few times is a Hobie Righting Line.

A few years ago, we were in the Utah Summer Games, competing for the first time and we met our friend Ben. Ben has been sailing for years and has connection to anything Hobie related all over Utah and the West Coast. Ben developed a Righting line for his Hobie 16, to help when those strong gusts of wind come up, and your mast hits the water.
hobie righting lineWe bought our Hobie from one of Ben’s friends and it already had the righting line attached. After taking a couple of heavy winds in our new boat, we were able to test it out and we loved it so much we decided to make a video about it. It has become one of our most popular videos on YouTube and we get all kinds of questions about it. It’s an oldie, but it’s still works. Watch the video below, and CLICK HERE for the link to his eBay page.

This Hobie righting line in our opinion needs to be within the top 10 things you’ll need to get for your Hobie. It makes righting your Hobie so much easier and faster. It has saved our skin more than once during gusts of wind that blow up and down the canyon on the lake where we sail. We can only imagine what it will do for you.

We’ve recently bought one of these but there were no instructions on the best way to install it… Did you attached the ends to the bottom/under the mast? Or to the base of where the trampoline and hulls connect? Any feedback on what works best would be appreciated!

@Lousie- One end goes around the front trampoline stanchion (post), then it wraps around the two stern (rear) stanchions and then connects back up to the other side forward stanchion. Hope that helps a bit. Let us know if you have any more detailed questions. We can also help you get in touch with the manufacturer.
