Christmas At Sea
Christmas may have just ended, but some sailors are already planning for a Caribbean Christmas at sea. In fact, quite a few are joining a Caribbean Christmas Sailing Rally for Christmas 2013. Louay Habib did an interview with John Simpson, founder of Sailing Rallies, talked about the experience of having Christmas in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
At the end of the European Sailing Season 2013, about 2000 yachts are expected to cross the Atlantic and head for the Caribbean to escape the cold winter blues. Some yachts will venture off on their own while big groups, like John Simpson’s Sailing Rallies, offer safety in numbers. His rally will launch from Marin Rubicon in Lanzarote and after crossing the Atlantic, they will land in Jolly Harbour, Antigua. They chose Antigua because of its popularity in Caribbean destinations and a great place to start exploring.
The yacht crews prepared for the voyage both on and off the water for months ahead of time. They also have the support of their fellow rally members while on the voyage. It’s the best of both worlds, the freedom to do what you want as well as be part of a family of adventure sailors.
The Sailing Rallies team will be attending the London Boat Show on the 14th – 16th January, and Boot Dusseldorf 23rd – 24th January.
