How to Replace a Jib Halyard Cleat? A couple of years ago ours broke off of our mast because of an…shall we say accident…from a day sail on the lake. Oops! Good thing we were able to fix and replace it. We thought it would be nice to document it with a video on how we replaced it.
Honestly, we replaced the Jib Halyard Cleat 3 seasons ago now, (when the video was originally shot) and it’s still going strong. We take good care of our boat, but it’s not to say that we don’t have a little fun with it too.
Here’s the list of supplies that you’ll need for this project as outlined in the video:
- 2 Stainless Steel pop rivets (about 1″ in length)
- Replacement Jib Cleat (found at your local Hobie Store for around $4.90)
- 3/16″ drill bit
- Hand Drill
- Pop Rivet Tool (Modified: Grind off a tip for the pop rivet, so that tool can actually seat down on top of the pop rivet inside the cleat)
