I live in a hicktown with a ton of friends but i dont care! i can make better friends in california and my dad still says no! i said to him, "Since mom died, we should start a new life and move out of here! Us kids can be home schooled in california! you can get an even better paying job and we can go anywhere and have NO SNOW!" he said, "NO!!!!!! we are staying here! most of the houses are too much money!" so i went online and looked up ‘cheap houses for sail in los angeles california’ and it came up with life 5000 different options all in the price range of $21,000.00 and $175,000.00 and they were huge! he still said no!

It seems that we have some common interests. My first experience commercial fishing was in SE AK on a salmon purse seiner out of Anacortes WN. I fished herring in Kashakes (sp?) at one point, but mainly fished from the Columbia River to Northern Mexico for salmon and albacore. San Francisco Bay provided a lucritive January fishery (roe herring) for a while, but that is all history now.
I sailed small boats up and down the coast for a few years before buying my commercial boat. Sailing is still one of my passions. My canoe, a Navaro Loon, has a custom sail rig which gives me a lot of pleasure, in a gentle sort of way. My white water days, gales at sea, cat four rapids, etc. are history. A gentle drift, like the Green River in Utah is more my speed now.
Where is SW AK?
Southwest Alaska is the area between the Western Gulf and the Bering Sea. I worked in the longline, troll, dive, pot, and tender fisheries, but no net fisheries. It’s big out here, but does not interest me much, except maybe for the set-netting. And it certainly is too much work for too little money anymore.
I’m not entirely comfortable with such a public communication forum – but I am impressed with your maritime experience. It sounds like you are going to have a wonderful adventure, at any speed — and your canoe seems like a very pleasant way to travel. Fair seas!

Iv just took this boat to sea for the first time, sealine 19 with above engine, whilst under 2000 revs its sweet as u nut but when you open it up it dosnt want to have it and it starts to die on itself. If you knock it out of gear it revs up lovely and sounds great! it sails at harbour speeds great, just wont let you open it up.The engine has been cherished as has the boat by the last owner, its got clean oil ,clean plugs you can eat your dinner off it! but for the past five years the boat has been restricted to running at 6mph on a river, and he never had it above 2000revs because of the speed limit. The fuel is new,it broke my heart filling it today! any ideas would be appreciated.
From what you describe it sounds like the second stage main jets are blocked.
I know this sounds far fetched but it wasn’t uncommon on these engines to solder up these main jets to restrict the engine for low speed use.
Or it may just be that old fuel has gummed up all the jets and it just needs a good carb. clean.
Give it a try, before you do anything expensive.

1999 C-420. All gear in good condition. Includes trapeze, spinnaker, new sails. Brand new trailer. Comes with hand dolly. Sails are new as of last year used only one summer. minor scratches on the hull but nothing that needs repairs.
It’s my first time purchasing a 420 so i don’t know what would be a reasonable price for this kind of boat. A brand new one is around 7 grand I think? any details about depreciation of sailboats, cost of a brand new vanguard 420 would help as well too. Thanks.
Sails will get you through another season or two at club level – but not at State or National level.
Depending on condition of total package – rig etc. it will be from a third to two thirds new price.

I am 15 years old, and I have grown to hate school.
When I was very young, I was under confident, and found myself sailing through school not caring whether I did bad or good.
When I was about 10, it clicked that I could do things. I went from strength to strength. My Year Six teacher raved about my abilities at writing.
After passing my 11+ and doing fantasticly for my first years at secondary, I started to relax more. I tried hard, but I knew I could do things. I often won prizes and the like, and last year, I was at my best.
Then I started GCSEs. I started to find things hard, and I got put in lower streams. I still try as hard, but I just can’t do things. Other students have started to get their minds into gear, and I find myself in the middle. Yes, it is a Grammar school, so the pupils are naturally more fast learners, and sometimes more able. But I feel like the air has been taken from me, and carpet pulled under my unsuspecting feet.
I hate all the subjects I have chosen, my grades are slipping. At one point, I was considering drama school, but I know I will never be pretty/good enough.
I don’t want to go to University anymore. I’ve never thought the education system was for me. I don’t even want to do A Levels. I don’t want to drown my life in work, because all I’ve known is that I hate it. My father is a leading scientist, with Phds, degrees from Oxford and Cambridge, the lot. He has written books, yet my mother left work when she had children. My father is constantly miserably. My mum doesn’t work, she is happier.
I have never seen much happiness or success associated with being first class academically. While my friends discuss degress in medicine, and going to Oxford University, I don’t want that.
I want to leave school next year. I just want to do something modest, get work out of my head. I will never be good enough. I want to learn without pressure.
Do you think I am doing the right thing?
I am predicted 12 A*s, but I do not see myself achieving that and being happy.
I don’t think this is what I was put on Earth to do.
I am not exceptional at anything.
you do whatever it is that makes you happy. nobody can ever tell you that they’re better than you. i know that i probably sound like your mom but its true. the pressure thing well just RELAX don’t listen to anybody who puts you down. and if its what it takes then become mr.mom and be happy. i believe in you!

I cannot remember exactly which Island he came from (Guernsey or Jersey I think) but he is apparently a local hero on on of the Islands. The story goes that he used to practise sailing small boats backwards a few hundred years ago. When his ship came under attack from the invading French, they shot out his mast. Apparently this unique situation allowed him to steer his boat backwards and get into a position to defeat the French boat. I would really like to discover who this man was, and would like to see anything that references the above event.

According to Carnival’s FAQ each guest 16 and older must have a government issued ID
How do you get one in California?
Is there a long wait time to get one like a passport? (I’m turning 16 in April and sailing in June so I don’t have much of a window)
What documents do I need?
The same agency that issues drivers licenses will be able to issue you an identification card that will function as a "Government issued ID". Here is the link.
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/dl/dl44.htm
Of course you can get and should have a passport. It can take 2-6 weeks. I received mine in 2 weeks. You have the time to get it.

Hope I helped!

I rarely go on vacation but i want, good food, white sand, clear water, wildlife, para sailing/snorkeling that’s for the destination. I want really gay friendly, in the USA, little to no kids, not too many people or people who won’t be annoying, 3 or 4 nights and preferably under 2000 bucks.
what can i do?
I was thinking key west or Hawaii…but i’m willing to settle for a better idea…whatever you guys think!
KEY WEST!!!!! Very gay friendly (all the gay-owned/friendly) places have pride flags out front.
I’ve only been once, but my friend and I had a BLAST!! We parked the car for the weekend and rented beachcomber bikes (you can also rent mopeds or golf carts). But if you stay near Duval St., you don’t really need transportation; since the island is only 4 miles across.
Great restaurants, too! We ate at Mangoes, Blue Heaven (a MUST for breakfast … don’t feed the chickens), and Bagatelle.
Key West is a large draw for gays, couples, and college kids … but many hotels do not rent rooms to "spring breakers".
The one drawback of Key West is that there is not much of public beaches anymore … the big (expensive) hotels own most of it (or so it seems).
Beautiful scenery, awesome history, laid back atmosphere …

I’m going to Turkey next week, and am staying in Marmaris, a lot of the websites have said that the sailing is good out there, I’ve been sailing before and so was wandering what the price of hiring a small 2 man, sail boat for the day would be.
Hi,
I found that site;

In July, Daily 475 Euro Minumum 1 week…

Hi im planning to get a small engine powered sail boat but my problem is I really dont have any experience nor liscense for boating… in short its my first time and I dont have any idea about it. I live in toronto and I really need usefull advice, insights and suggestions about boating in ontario, any help is appreciated.
here is a good place to start, it’s the canadian boating course

No children under 12 years of age can operate a powerboat with more than a 10 hp motor.
Youths 12 to 15 years of age may only operate a boat with a motor over 40 hp if accompanied and directly supervised by someone 16 years of age or older.
Minimum age for operating a personal watercraft (sea-doo, jetski) is 16 years of age.
New small vessel safety equipment and safety precaution requirements for boaters include a new “careless operation of a vessel” offence which requires boaters to travel safely and avoid putting themselves and others at risk.
Operators of powerboats must have proof of operator competency.
As of September 2009, this applies to all operators of all powerboats and PWC’s
as far as learning to sail, suggest that you contact your local sailing/yacht clubs. there you will find the sailors and sail boat racers. these clubs may offer sailing lessions and other boating classes that can help you learn to sail, you may also be able to crew on larger sailboats (racing).
http://www.ontariosailing.ca/Learn_To_Sail/index.php
take a look on line for sailing lessions, youtube has a many short videos on sailing.
