How do I dive in Nancy Drew: Ransom of The Seven Ships?

How do I dive in Nancy Drew: Ransom of The Seven Ships?
I am stuck and have no idea how to dive in Nancy Drew: Ransom of the Seven Ships. I have the scuba gear, medal detector, shovel and the sail for the sailboat. I have tried everything! I’ve been to the rocky crescent island, sailed around and clicked on the box in the top left corner of my screen that has my scuba gear with the number 100. But nothings happened, help me!!!!

I have circled all the islands but a new screen does not appear, what do I do and where do I go!?

Please try and give me step by step instructions! Like what I need to have, where I need to go and how I get there!!

Are you playing junior level? Check your task list and make sure you’re ready to dive. That you don’t have anything else you need to do.

When you’re ready, as long as you’re in the right place, you should just automatically see a first-person view of the boat and from there, you can dive over the edge. It won’t let you do it unless you’re in the right place at the right time, though.

As for the place, you need to go SE of the island until you see the rocks there…there’s a horseshoe area SW of the island…you’ll dive there later.

Good luck!

What to get your "moms" for Christmas?

admin 17 Jan 2010 | : That's The Spot, Where To Sail

I have no idea what to get my "moms" for Christmas. When I say "moms", I mean my birth mother and a family friend who is my mom when I am not at home. They are not married or anything like that LOL!

My mom enjoys the water, sailing, and kayaking. We live in the desert but there is a lake an hour away where my mom and dad go almost every weekend to sail and kayak. She grew up in the south on the beach so she enjoys the water. They have a bunch of gear for the kayaks and they have a 23ft sleeper sail boat that they take out on the lake. I am a college student living at my own place and I don’t really get a chance to go sailing or kayaking so I have no idea what would be useful, if even related to that. As for my other "mom" she is not related to me but she is my best friends mom and she puts up with us and brings us out to dinner at least two to three times a month, and cooks for us sometimes too. She likes receiving gifts but is very hard to shop for. She likes African animals and things like that. We usually get her a painting, tableware, and stuff to look at. I never see any of the place-mats or bowls or anything being used though so I guess she doesn’t really like them or they don’t fit with the layout. I really don’t know what to get her. I have gotten stuff from Pier 1 but I think that is kinda being just inconsiderate and a last minute thing.

I really want to get both of my moms something useful and something that will have value and be thoughtful. I know what to get everyone else but I just have no idea what women like. My price range is about $100 each as I am a semi broke college student but have scholarships and a job to let me be a little more lenient with my money.
woa! That anthropologie.com stuff was crazy! That is the kind of stuff she likes but in a different genre I guess. The stuff on that website seemed a little too over the top and with a french style I think. Is there any other places close to that but a little less artsy?

gather all your siblings and have your picture taken with santa,,,,,I dont care how old you are or how young…your mom and dad will love it Merry Christmas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73OcXl6Bgyw

Sailing racing tatics?

admin 17 Jan 2010 | : That's The Spot, Where To Sail

Im doing my first sailing race. I am going to be in a laser pico and i was wondering about tatics. Thanks

It depends on a few things. If your just a beginner and this is your first race then i would worry about just getting around the course, especially if there is a bit of breeze. However, if you have been sailing for a while and have just started racing you need to consider a couple of things. First, how much wind is there. The tactics involved in a windy race are very different to those in a a moderate wind range, and these are very different to a light wind race. If it is windy and you are a larger, more powerful sailor then you are already at an advantage. Go off the pin (port end) of the start line under the other sailors and sail a low angle. Try and keep your boat dead flat and you should be able to sail faster than the others. Once you have a big enough gap you can tack and cross the fleet (hopefully). In lighter air line bias is more important so keep an eye on that. If you are ahead, stay between the next mark and the boats behind you (covering). If you are behind, take more risks to try and get back to the front. I dont know anything about a laser pico, but if its a planning boat the tactics are different to a boat that sails closer to the wind. The standard laser sails closer to the wind but really good sailors can get them planning upwind as the breeze increases.

I dont think you really need in depth tactics so a simple game plan could be…
1 – get a good start near the favoured end of the line
2 – Sail to the favoured side of the course (have a look at the boats around you to help decide which side is favoured. Perhaps the middle is favoured??)
3 – if it is windy try and be conservative, conserve energy and sail within your limitations.
4 – keep an eye on the boats around you

Its hard to give advice because i know so little about your circumstances but i hope this helps

How can i become a "serious" Laser sailor?

admin 17 Jan 2010 | : That's The Spot, Where To Sail

I started sailing my Laser last spring at my club, and have improved greatly, so as now i beat everyone in my handicap that isn’t in the national squad. As a resulat i’d really like to start sailing with the proper Laser class, and try and become a far better sailor, i hear a lot of the 4.7/Radial circuit, but i don’t have a clue how to go about getting onto it, i’m a member of the UKLA, but how do i go about getting more into Laser sailing?

Thanks :)

Whoa!! Slow down. One year of sailing experience does not make you the greatest. What will probably happen this spring is they will modify your handicap and put you into a more advanced group. Why would you want to already switch boats? You have so much more to learn on the laser your sailing now. Next you’ll start racing against the national squad, and even once you beat all of them consistently you’ll still have to start placing in the national and then world competitions. One years racing does not make an expert sailor.

Now’s the time to start learning to read the waves, wind and weather. Spot those lifts coming in across the bay. Know when to tack on the header to get into the lee of the land and out of the current. Learn what’s the best angle of heel and sail shape for each point of wind and wind speed. Sailing is one of those sports where you never stop learning. You’ll feel much better staying where you are and finding some success rather than getting into a division that’s much better than you are, and having to play catchup in every race. Nothing’s as rotten as always being last.

can you build your own boat and legally drive it?

admin 17 Jan 2010 | : That's The Spot, Where To Sail

I’ve wanted to build my own boat for a long time now. I’ve read some books on how to do it and I think I can the only thing that i’ve never been able to find is can you build a boat and legally drive it in the ocean? I currently have my own sail boat and that has to be registered and I have insurance I just don’t know if that’s something I need to have or not. But could I build a boat and some how get a VIN number for it or something or would building my own boat be a waste of time because I wouldn’t be able to use it …. assuming it floated when I put it in the water lol. I live in california any one know how to register a hand made boat?

Build your boat. Go to the DMV when it is finished and apply for registration. In CA all boats require a registration card, proof of insurance, and a hull number with a valid sticker affixed.
Just fill out the form and indicate "home built" in the Manufacturers section. They may require a visual inspection of the boat, but when I built mine it was not required.

Has anyone ever sailed across the pacific ocean?

Has anyone in the Yahoo community sailed a Ranger 33 to Hawaii?

admin 17 Jan 2010 | : That's The Spot, Where To Sail

I have a 1974 Ranger 33, a great coastal sailing vessel. I’d like to sail it to Hawaii, but I’m not certain if she could make to voyage.

With preparation and determination almost anything is possible but it’s wise to listen to the voice of experience. Cruisers Forum is a good place to begin. Start here and follow the links as you need, http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/f47/cheap-ish-bluewater-cruisers-with-speed-23980.html

How long would it have taken the boats and slaves to reach the sugar plantations sailing the middle passage?

admin 17 Jan 2010 | : sailing

How long would it have taken the boats carrying 500 slaves sailing the middle passage from africa to the sugar plantations duringthe slave trade around the 1700s?

Turn around to Europe of the boats from North America was measured [then] to be six months. This, depending on the weather conditions, weight and also other external factors [e.g pirates along the way & militia]

Cruise question: What is the difference between a sailing and a cruisetour?

admin 17 Jan 2010 | : sailing

I was on the Royal Caribbean site looking at cruises and it asked me whether i wanted a sailing or a cruisetour….. what is the difference between these?

A cruise tour is when you both sail on a ship and do a land tour too. Like going to Alaska, I did a land tour for 4 days before I got on the ship. We then sailed for 7 days. It was the best cruise ever and well worth doing a land tour since Alaska is sooo big.

Is it safe/wise to take an 18 month old on a 5 day sailing trip??

admin 17 Jan 2010 | : That's The Spot, Where To Sail

Does anyone have experience with this?? I have no idea! We’ve been invited to take a 5 day, 4 night sailing trip in the Caribbean. We have an 18 month old daughter who has been on a sailing boat once. And she was ok, but she’s never had to sleep on one. I think we would have our own bedroom, but it’s a 2 br small sailing boat. We have a lifejacket for her, but I just think it will be more of a pain in the a** for us (AND the other 5 passengers) than it will be fun and enjoyable! Any thoughts from people who have done it or would never do it?? Our daughter just seems too young to me for this kind of thing. Of course my husband is ALL FOR IT and thinks it will be great fun! Will be glad to take all opinions!
Thank you!!

I have a 7 month old that doesn’t really move around too much and I couldn’t even imagine having him confined to a boat for 5 days. Your daughter will be walking around and getting into everything. I just think that would be too hard. Plus think of all the stuff that you would have to bring. You’d probably weigh down the boat with all the food, bottles, clothes, toys and who knows what else you need. I would tell your husband if he thinks its a good idea let him and your daughter go and you can have a nice relaxing week at the spa then see what he says.

What is the best design sails for a small model boat with wind blowing in at right angles? speed and stability?

admin 17 Jan 2010 | : That's The Spot, Where To Sail

Hi just conducting an experiment. what is the best design sails to put on a given model boat hull for maximum speed and stability. the wind in the sails will be blowing straight in at right angles. Some advice on a keel and rudder would be helpful too. The boat only needs to cover a distance of 2 metres but in minimal time. I’m not a sailor at all so any help by anyone with experience in sailing or marine engineering would be appreciated. Thanks

Think: gaff-rigged sails. They give the most drive for the buck, and still keep your rig short. On a beam reach, you’ll be screaming (your model, I mean).

As far as your keel and rudder goes: make them as deep as the rules allow, and then you’ll sail as straight as possible over those 2M.

spiders on board?

admin 12 Jan 2010 | : That's The Spot, Where To Sail

I have a historic sail boat… southcoast 25, first one ever built. I’m restoring it to orriginal condition, but I have a problem. it’s infested with many many generations of spiders. I think there are about 50 varieties and all feeding on eachother. Before I begin restoration, these inbred things need to go or be killed. any good suggestions on how to exterminate these things on a boat? I find them nesting in the sails, the fore decks, in the planking of the cabin, the bilge, engine hatch, gear lockers, everywhere!

You will need to call an exterminator, have the sailboat tented and gassed.

Bikini, no swimming, or get hosed on price?

admin 12 Jan 2010 | : That's The Spot, Where To Sail

Size 0 to 8 gals. You meet a woman, who is quite successful. She views you as one of her best friends. She invites you and another gal on a cruise. After setting sail the ideal of checking out one of the ship’s pools comes up. You check, and check. But the swimsuit you thought you packed, you forgot. The trip benefactor tells you not to panick. She always packs a spare and you just happen to be very close in size. she whips out a Rio cut bikini and offers it to you. The only othe wet gear she has is a surf suit that covers from the knee, to the neck, to the elbow. Do you:

A> Accept the Rio but bikini?
B> Try to get the group to do something other than swimming?
C> Ask to go to the pool in the surf suit?
D> Go buy one onboard where you already know the price has been marked up near 150%?

If you are young and pretty and your form is good, it is good form to wear a string bikini. Otherwise, otherwise.

In my case, if I liked it and it fit well, I’d wear it and not bat an eye. I wear similar bikinis. However, if for some reason, I did not believe it was right for me, even at double the price, an inexpensive swimsuits would not be that expensive. So I would go buy a swimsuit. However, I would select one of the less expensive ones.

What kind of car should I get for my first car?

admin 12 Jan 2010 | : That's The Spot, Where To Sail

I need to be able to tow a laser, and have room inside to put sails and mast sections. I would also like it to get better than 20 mpgs. I will be using it on boat ramps, and on mountain roads. Does anybody know of a car like that?

#1) 1998 Nissan Maxima:
21 mpg (fueleconomy.gov)
4 star all around crash test except for rear (safercar.gov)
5 out of 5 reliability (MSN Autos)
#2) 2002 Hyundai Sonata v6 (2.7L or higher)
20 mpg (fueleconomy.gov)
4 star all around crash test (safercar.gov)
5 out of 5 reliability (MSN Autos)

Buying a car can be confusing so these websites will take all the confusion out of the equation:

1) Safety Ratings: http://www.safercar.gov/

http://www.iihs.org/ratings/default.aspx

(remember 3 stars or less is bad) (buying used with crash test depending on side airbags is bad because there is no way to even know if they still work)
2) Reliability:

3) Fuel Economy: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm
