I teach people how to sail small day boats and powerboats and I cannot find any full time work. I want to work off a beach or resort but not for one of the large holiday companies. Im fully qualified through the Royal yachting association, just looking for an opening thats not obvious. All help very welcome
It depends whereabouts you’re from, im an instructor-in-training so to speak so i know what its like. Theres a company called ‘flying fish’ which are international and mostly specialise in gap years or training but theyre great for finding work and so on and theyve been really helpful to me and some of my older friends so i’d give them a call maybe.

I have a cruiser, and it’s not cruising easily. It’s not the gears. I have to really work to peddle, to the point where it’s like dying. I don’t know what’s wrong with it, my other bike was easy sailing, but it’s old so I bought this one. Anyone know what could be stopping the pedaling process?
A beach Cruiser or Cruisers are generally a little harder to pedal than a road bike but if your having that much difficulty something needs to be adjusted. It sounds like maybe your brake or brakes are dragging and need to be adjusted or possibly your tire pressure is down from what it should be, I’d check both to start with. You also may want to take a quick look to see that your tires aren’t rubbing the frame in some way.
The next thing would be to lube the chain with chain lube only, do not use WD-40, grease, 3 in oil or motor oil or any of that stuff. Those things will not lube a chain. WD-40 will clean and that’s all, it has very little lubricating value and 3 in 1 oil grease, and motor oil only set on the outside of your chain and collect dirt and road grime and make a mess. Use a good bicycle chain lube like Pro-link.
Pro-link or a good chain lube not only lubes the outside of your chain but it penetrates the rollers and lubes the pins where it’s needed. It lubes and cleans at the same time and is anti static so ti doesn’t attract road dirt and grime.
If all that fails take your bike to the Local bike shop and have someone there check it out.

the charity name is called Happy Ranch
I hope to make outdoor sports that are known for only the wealthy, such as golf, horse riding, sailing, etc. to those who are in the cities or can’t afford the gears to enjoy those sports and also to protect the environment for tranditional sports and camping etc.
do you think of the name and will it be able to attract people and some supports for it?
Speaking as a house wife and having 3 sons, and absolutely zero money for any extras…I think that is an awesome idea! I pray that it does well and you get an abundance of support!

Is a Laser too big for a 14-15 year old kid to sail singlehanded? if so, would a 14-15 year old grow out of a laser radial too quickly?
Thanks.
Not at all, as long as long you know how to sail. I see dozens of youngsters sailing them. And, I see adults in them too, so I doubt you’ll outgrow it.

I know light doesnt have any mass, but it does have momentum. Seems like if solar sails work, this should too.
It would have to be pushing off something i would like to think. But yes it would, there is alot of stuff out there and if we were to bounce a laser off some of it then it should cause motion. It would be slow but steady acceleration. After a good amout of time i think that it would be moving rather fast and as long as the battery held it would keep getting faster and faster as long as it was not acted on by an outside force.

Have the enemies ever sailed their ships close to the California or Southern CA shore?
Reports means they think they saw something. There were several actual attacks. My Dad was at the very first @ Dutch Harbor, was sent to Attu after the 7th ID expelled Japanese Troops from that hunk of US soil.
A Great Uncle was on a ship within site of Palm Beach FL when it was sunk by a U-Boat in May 43. I have the letter he sent to my Grandmother, his sister in law, that describes a little of the attack.

I’m curious about sailing down the coastline from California to Costa Rica…I want to know what size boat is needed and how much it costs to actually do it (permits, food etc..) ..Also, how long a trip like that usually takes and when the best time to go is. I’d appreciate answers from people who have actually done it but any intelligent answer is welcome. Thank you. Pura Vida.
sorry, i know nothing about sailing, but i had to tell you how jealous i am. ever since i was young i’ve wanted to sail- it sucks growing up in the midwest.

I am a carpenter and would like to trade for a sailboat at least a 30 ‘ iam a handy man of all kinds .finding it hard to save enough towards my goal of owning or atleast sailing on my own . would consider a partner.I love adventure ,I am a christian ,I ride horses and Harleys , am single willing to relocate , ,,the islands , Hawaii ,Riviera … come on some tips please make an ol mans dream come true. not really old Healthy’ except for this brain tumor I would even consider a fixer upper and be your humble servant for a year . did i mention i do windows ….and sheetrock , roofs …
I think it would help if you first learn about sailing. Once you have even a small amount of experience, there are many people looking for crew. I have a 40′ sailboat and I am always looking "good" crew. Someone who knows just a little about sailing but is willing to work and learn. There are "singles" sailing organizations in most popular sailing areas and this is a good place to meet people looking for crew. Particularly with your skills, you should be able to find people to sail with very easily.
To learn the basics take either a couple Power Squadron courses or the Coast Guard Auxiliary offers classes too. Both are very inexpensive and quite good.
Another way to learn to sail is to go down to the local Marinas and talk to boat owners. Make up a "resume" with contact info, a list of your skills and be straight forward about what you want. "Will work for sailing". A few references would be bad either.
As I said, most boat owners are always looking for crew who are willing to help and work. There are LOTS of people who want to go for a ride. They don’t get asked back. The ones who help (includes cleaning, sanding, polishing, cooking, etc) always get asked back. Over and over.
Good luck.
My dad (who knows a lot more about sailing than i do.. I really don’t know anything) was given a 20′ hobie cat sailboat. I don’t know know if that is just the type or name brand.. Things like missing the sail, no riggings, trailer tires need to be replaced, etc. Where is a good place for him online to look for these parts? I am mainly interested in parts for the boat. The trailer parts we can get here.
As much as my dad loves sailing, I don’t think he really knows where to get started. I’m trying to do some research to help him take that first step.
There is an extensive Hobie Cat owners network. Check with marina’s or dealers in your area for information on how to make contact. Good luck!
I have a small 27 ft sailboat that I love and I am a newbie at sailing. I would like a great, all around, inexpensive but durable hand held gps. I see a lot out there, but many are very fancy and I am not technologically inclined. Any thoughts?
These are good hand held gps for hiking, boating :
1.Garmin GPS 76 Handheld GPS Navigator, The GPS 76 comes in handy almost anywhere, whether you’re hiking, driving, boating, or wandering around a city as a tourist. Its easy-to-use interface makes it immediately useful to novices, and as you learn to exploit its programmability and features it can become an extremely powerful navigation tool

2. DeLorme Earthmate PN-40 Handheld GPS, Great for taking along on boating trips, island explorations, and trips ashore, Navigating a Route on Water.

My boyfriends birthday is comming up and he has a smaller sail boat. the mast is 22inches. and i was hoping to buy him a new sail for it but i wanted the sail to be like a pirate flag. anyone know where i can find something like that?? thanks!!!
T-Shirt shops will silk screen a pirate emblem onto the sail for you. You will have to bring the sail into the shop though.

A small 28 ft sail boat has been hanging on the hook for 2 years an it is run aground for most of that time. How can I claim it? I live in Florida.
As someone mentioned, running aground for 2 years can cause damage.
States differ, and in some it is 7 years before a boat is considered abandoned.
If there are any registration numbers on the bow, contact that state for information.
A 28 foot sailboat is just about big enough to documentation. If there are no state numbers, you can contact the Coast Guard regarding the name and home port for more information. Even if it i documented it is supposed to have a state sticker, maybe on the mast.
You do have to wait whatever period your state has for abandonment, inquire from them.

I am looking for a non-nude, as in if it is optional or if it goes over to the French side fine, but not one that is specifically geared toward nude. I am looking for one with food, deserted island, open bar, drinks on island, good price, good time, etc. thanks!
Staying in Phillipsburg at the Westin, pick up would be nice but if not close by so cheap cab
Try the Celine or Golden Eagle.
FWIW, Westin is at Dawn Beach, a fairly good distance from Phillipsburg…

I live in Florida, and there’s not alot of sailing gustfull gales filling the sails of much of anything…nor are there alot of waves-I’ve heard tales of awsome waves when the hurricanes hit. But that was only when Ivin hit.
I have next to no idea about windsurfing, just tired of rolling around on the ground alone ya know? So I was wondering what type of sail and boards do what fucntions, I’m not looking for tricks, just something that moves and the very bleak oceany waters we call our beach, I really want to know wtf is up with the sail types, which do I need? Anyone have any tips, advice, websites to learn form, anything would be nice, thanks.
i have a mistral N- trance and i love it. i would recomend this. it is stable but still fast. just get a medium sail. they work fine for all types of days. hope this helps.
